Polar Clock Screensaver

UPDATE:
Version 3 is now available here

Download Screensaver for Mac OS X only.

I’ve just put this together as a bit of a test of some drawing API extensions I wrote a while ago. All the shapes are drawn with code, corner rounding curves are achieved using the ‘capStyle’ argument when setting the lineStyle, easy as that! The colour of each ring is based on an HSL colourwheel.

Dont you want to release a win version?

  3. pixelbreaker / February 12th, 2007 12:26 pm

I don’t have screentime for windows, sorry. If I could afford $200 for another version, I would…

pixelbreaker, ran across your blog, love the clock. made a win version with screentime. email me and i’ll send it to you to post on your site.

If you want to make a quick windows screensaver just use http://www.creamshavers.com/. I “borrowed” the swf and it worked fairly well, it just doesn’t center it on the screen.

If you tweak the SWF i’m sure it would look great on windows.

Thanks, I’ll try that later, looks good!

I tried that screensaver maker, and it’s no good, once you’ve installed it, you have to install the shockwave player 10. no-one bothers with shockwave these days…

Any change of a Source release, pretty please? : )

  10. Ed / March 23rd, 2007 6:43 pm

Throw in this trick, and you have a pretty slick background: http://www.macosxtips.co.uk/index_files/set-screen-saver-to-desktop-background.html

  11. kramer / March 23rd, 2007 9:44 pm

Sorry about that, i must have shockwave install from playing online games. I never realized it used it.

I’ve heard of this free screensaver maker, but its an installer http://www.instantstorm.com/.

Ale, I’m not going to release the source for this, sorry.

Your screensaver is up and running in Jaylandcentral. If it breaks my machine I will break you and feed you to my army of otters. You have been warned Gabeatron.

It’s really, really good. And I don’t even like screensavers. Too bad the PC version causes my machine to go bonkers at 100% CPU activity and duplicate itself to 3 processes that won’t shut down. If you’ve got a solution to make Polar work despite this, please post it - I’ll be grateful.

Gorgeous. I hope someone wants to manufacture this as a wall-clock and you make millions, hundreds, tens of thousands.

Very very cool clock function…. very nice.

what i dont understand though is:
if this is supposed to be a screen-saver, then the fact that after the intial load the month/day etc dont move…. which kindof nul-an-void the whole reason for a screensaver…

    whats the point…

but as a graphic, its brilllant

hi,i want know if be possible to have polar clock for windows. but not the second version because it doesn’t like me. i think that the first version is better.
    i wait for an answer.
    thanks

  24. Marc / May 12th, 2007 5:26 pm

i like your screensaver. but i wish the PIXEL BREAKER logo wasn’t on it. because it seems like an ad.

i wish you would remove it.
it should be enough to have it on the installer only and in the about system preferences pane or something.

    thanks

    Hello pixelbreaker!

I like your screensaver very much!

I just wondered, why you’ve used Screentime for Flash instead of InstantStorm…

Do you consider recreating windows installer in InstantStorm?
Do you miss some feature in InstantStorm?
    Thank you for your answer!
